About the Lessons
With over 35 years of teaching experience, I bring a lifetime of musical knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm to every lesson. I care deeply about helping each student become the very best musician they can be, and I believe learning music should always feel enjoyable, encouraging, and inspiring.
My lessons are professional, structured, and tailored to suit the individual – whether you’re a complete beginner, a returning adult, or an advanced student preparing for exams or creative projects. I adapt my teaching to each learner’s goals, pace, and personality, ensuring every student feels supported and confident as they grow.
Lessons are weekly, and you can choose either 30‑minute or 60‑minute sessions to suit your schedule and learning style. Many students enjoy the flexibility of combining in‑person lessons at my Aberdeen studio with online sessions, and some choose to learn entirely online – whatever works best for you.
I teach music theory as standard within piano and keyboard lessons, giving students a strong foundation as they progress. For learners working towards the higher practical grades, a separate theory lesson is often beneficial to ensure full understanding and exam readiness.
For those who wish to take exams, I offer a clear and supportive pathway:
Piano and Electronic Keyboard exams are with the National College of Music and Arts (NCM). These exams can be taken at any time of the year and are evidence/video‑based, making them an excellent option for busy adults, school‑age learners, or anyone who prefers not to perform in front of an examiner.
Music Theory exams are with ABRSM and are completed online, giving students flexibility and a comfortable environment in which to demonstrate their knowledge.
Exams are always available, but never compulsory. Many students enjoy working towards certificates, while others prefer to learn purely for fun. Both paths are equally valued, and I support each student’s goals with the same care and enthusiasm.
I welcome learners of all ages and abilities, from young children to adults, and I take pride in creating a friendly, relaxed environment where everyone can thrive. If you’re looking for lessons that are enjoyable, personalised, and backed by decades of experience, I’d love to help you begin, or continue, your musical journey.
